ISLAMABAD, May 7: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) will be briefing here on Wednesday the visiting technical team of International Monetary Fund (IMF) on tax administration restructuring.

Officials’ sources said that the team will be given detailed briefing by the tax authorities on the steps so far taken for the implementation of the reform agenda.

Under the reform agenda, the officials elaborated, five members from the private sectors were appointed, supervisory council was established and rules for record keeping announced.

Moreover, around 36-day long chain management workshops were conducted throughout the country, which were attended by 1,100 officers.

APP ADDS: The five-member IMF review mission is holding threadbare meetings with the authorities concerned to review the progress on macroeconomic fronts for the third PRGF tranche of $109 million.

During two week stay, the mission will have detailed meetings with the Central Board of Revenue over budgetary revenue shortfall, restructuring process, policy issues, budgetary revenue and expenditure, targets, tax reforms and administrative reforms in the Board.

The Mission will also be briefed by the economic sector authorities about prevailing position regarding privatization process, internal and external debt, trade policy, trade projections, privatization in corporate and banking sector including KESC, public pension reforms, poverty alleviation programme and social sector development and expenditures.

The mission will submit its report, based on comprehensive review of macroeconomic benchmarks and progress in this regard to the board meeting, still to be scheduled for the third PRGF tranche, the sources said.

Pakistan has already received second tranche of $107 million out of $1.3 billion Poverty Reduction Growth Facility (PRGF), approved by the Fund in March last.
