KARACHI, Aug 25: Baloch nationalists across the country and abroad will observe the second death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Bugti, founder of the Jamhoori Watan Party, various Baloch nationalist parties and groups announced here on Monday.

Nawab Bugti was killed along with some of his relatives and supporters in an army action near Sangseela mountains, near Dera Bugti, on Aug 26, 2006.

Seminars and rallies have been organised in Balochistan and Sindh to pay homage to the JWP leader.

His tribesmen and supporters would renew their pledge to carry forward the Nawab’s mission of getting Balochistan’s and the Baloch people’s sovereign rights restored, the organisers said, recalling that the assassinated leader had laid down his life for the cause.

They said Nawab Bugti had spearheaded a decades-long campaign for greater provincial autonomy and Balochistan’s legitimate claim to its natural resources.

The JWP and its like-minded nationalist forces hold former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf responsible for the assassination of Nawab Bugti and his companions.

The outfits, including the Baloch National Movement, have also given a call for a shutter-down strike for Tuesday and declared Aug 26 a “black day”.

Nationalist parties have also planned to stage a rally at Haat Chowk at 3pm on Tuesday. Several nationalist leaders will speak to the participants.
