SANGHAR, Aug 17: The Shaheed Benazir Welfare Society, an NGO, has been accused of selling bogus coupons to the poor. The coupons were sold for Rs100 to 200 each, a number of affected people alleged here on Sunday.

Shahnawaz, Ali Bux Khaskheli, Ms Zeenat Shar, Gul Sher Khaskheli, Ms Kausar and Ms Thathi Shar said that the provincial minister for Zakat and Baitul Maal Sajid Jokhio had inaugurated the office of the NGO in Sanghar a few weeks ago.

The NGO had set up offices in Jhol, Sanghar, Sinjhoro, Rukan Buriro and other places to sell membership cards. When they went to the post office and banks to get the cards verifed they were told that they were bogus, they said.

They said that the recipients of the Benazir Bhutto Food Cards were the poorest of the poor for whom Rs100 or Rs200 was a substantial amount. The NGO hoodwinked people by inviting a minister to open its office, they said.
