LAHORE, Aug 16: The Save Judiciary Committee (SJC) has said President Gen Pervez Musharraf (retired) has lost any justification to keep the presidency occupied after all the provincial assemblies had voted against him.

In a statements issued on Saturday, SJC Chairman Abdul Rasheed Qureshi said the ruling coalition would gain support among masses after impeaching the president, but the real test would come when it took up the matter of restoration of deposed judges.

Chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and all deposed judges should be reinstated immediately and a bench should be constituted to hear all cases against Gen Musharraf and his lackeys, Qureshi added.

He said the ruling coalition should stop extending hollow promises to people and honour their mandate for the restoration of deposed judges as soon as possible. The SJC also demonstrated at the courtyard of the Lahore High Court Bar Association on Saturday and demanded restoration of the judges. A good number of lawyers gathered at the hunger strike camp of the SJC.

Qureshi and Jalil Ahmed Khan Hoti, Sardar Abdul Jabbar Dogar, Mehmood-ul-Hassan Qureshi, Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, Somaeel Khatak, Mehmood Haq Thanavi, Sheikh Abdul Majeed, Dilawar Kaloh, Muhammad Sarfraz Khan and Mian Ata-ur-Rehman participated in the demonstration. — Reporter
