LAHORE, Aug 11: At least 28 trucks of relief items have been dispatched to the Rajanpur district for their onward destination through helicopters and land routes to the flood-hit areas.

According to a handout issued on Monday, out of financial assistance of Rs10 million approved by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Rs4 million had been provided to the Rajanpur DCO, who is supervising the relief works in flood-affected areas.

The government has provided 8,103 packets of food items, 8,590 flour bags, 2,537 tents and 4,699 bottles of mineral water to the stranded people. Aside from this, four consultants, 18 doctors and 52-member paramedical staff are busy for the provision of emergency medical treatment to the calamity-stricken people.

The federal government has also sent 2,000 blankets and 4,000 plastic mats while the Unicef has donated 200 tents and 10 water filters. The situation is normalising and the people have started returning to their homes from the relief camps.
