LAHORE, Oct 24: Three armed men killed two motorcyclists on Kanjwana Road near Kumharanwali Haveli in Kahna on Wednesday.

Shahid, 25, and a retired school headmaster Malik Hameed, 60, were on way to a market by their motorcycle.

Quoting eyewitnesses, a former councillor from the locality Malik Liaquat told reporters that three gunmen signalled Shahid to stop. Instead of stopping, Shahid tried to speed away. The armed men opened fire, causing serious injuries to Shahid and Hameed.

In the meantime, the councillor said, a car with four men in it which was heading to a nearby village reached the spot and the gangsters had to flee without taking away the motorcycle or cash. Two of the four men attended the injured men and rest of them chased the gunmen. They overpowered one of the robbers while his two accomplices made good their escape, he claimed. He said the robber was thrashed by the villagers and later handed over to the police.

The injured men were rushed to the Lahore General Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. Shahid has been helping his father in farming. Hameed is survived by a wife and three children.

The bodies were sent to the city mortuary for autopsy.

The mortuary sources said both the men had more than five bullet wounds each.
