KARACHI, July 27: Four picnickers drowned overnight off the Hawkesbay beach, police and hospital sources said on Sunday.

They said two picnickers were swept away by a high tide while they were bathing in the sea on Sunday night.

Their bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where the deceased were identified as Kamran, 18, and Lakshman, 22, residents of Ranchhore Line.

Volunteers of the Edhi Foundation said the local divers recovered the bodies.

A 25-year-old man and his 20-year-old niece drowned while they were bathing in the sea at Zero Point.

Their bodies were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where the victims were identified as Sumair, son of Pervaiz, and Nafeesa, daughter of Abdul Jabbar.

The police said the drowning victims were the residents of Surjani Town.

The APP news agency said a fifth person also drowned, but it did not give any details about the victim.
