ISLAMABAD, July 24: President Pervez Musharraf has reiterated his resolve to continue in office and to extend full support to the coalition government in its efforts to solve the problems of terrorism and the economic downturn.

The president was talking to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and the Chaudhry brothers during meetings at the President’s Rawalpindi Camp Office here on Thursday.

According to sources, the governor apprised the president of the political and law and order situation in Sindh.

On the issue of his impeachment, the president said that a clash between institutions would seriously damage the country.

He insisted that he had an important role to play in the present set-up and he would continue to do his best in this regard.

The president also received PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi on Thursday and exchanged views on the political situation.

The sources said that the Chaudhry brothers reassured their party’s full support for the president if an impeachment move was made in parliament.

The president told them that confrontation should be avoided at a time when the country was facing a number of serious challenges such as inflation, energy crisis and terrorism. He said national reconciliation was needed to cope with the challenges.
