THATTA, July 14: A procession was taken out by employees of the District Health Department on Monday against their retrenchment.

Protesters led by Dr Syed Shabbir Ali Shah, Dr Aslam Memon and Dr Chandar raised slogans while marching on main roads. They reached Thatta Press Club where the leaders held a press conference.

Some 27 male and female doctors, and 49 paramedics have been sacked by the district government.

Syed Shabbir Shah, Dr Aslam Memon and others told reporters that people had pinned hopes on the PPP for providing jobs to unemployed but instead bureaucrats were depriving them on the pretext of lack of funds.

They said the government set a precedent by withdrawing retrenchment orders of abut 5,000 employees of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, while in interior confrontational policies ruled.
