ATTOCK, June 30: The tehsil council of Attock on Monday approved its budgets for 2008-09.

The council passed the budget of Rs266.928 million out of which Rs64 million had been allocated for development purpose and Rs86.461 million for non-development expenditures of the tehsil including Rs49.7 million for the salaries of employees and other contingencies.

Tehsil Nazim Attock, Qazi Khalid Mehmood presented the budget in a special session of tehsil council, which was presided over by its convener Malik Shamim Khan.

Giving salient features of the budget, he said that Rs1.6 million would go for women development while Rs1 million allocated for the sports.

Such as, Rs1.55 million would be utilised for rehabilitation work and Rs15.5 million for ongoing development schemes, he said.

Besides allocation of Rs22.94 million for development projects under Citizen Community Boards (CCBs), sufficient funds had been allocated for public welfare and development projects besides provision of basic facilities to the citizens civic facilities.

He said that machinery had been purchased for the construction of three tubewells to ensure smooth water supply to the city, while new fire brigade vehicles had been provided to the fire fighting unit of TMA Attock to handle any emergency.

Taking part in budget debate, members Nabeela Mushtaq and Sheikh Israr said despite allocation of huge amount for payment of salaries and other facilities of tehsil municipal administration (TMA) officials, people continued to face problems.

They attributed their problems to lack of proper work and supervision of officials in performing their official obligations.

They said supply of contaminated drinking water posed serious health threat to the residents of the area.

The members alleged that government vehicles were used for pick and drop of children and families of officials besides picnic tours.

They said that they supported the tehsil council’s proposed budget conditionally. In his response, tehsil Nazim Mr Qazi assured the members that prompt action would be taken in this regard besides setting up a committee to review the public issues.

Later, the members of house after presenting their proposals and suggestions, approved the proposed budget for next financial year.
