LAHORE, June 23: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has protested the city district government’s crackdown against Multan Road industries allegedly for discharging toxic waste water in Hadiara Drain.

An LCCI spokesman said that punitive action had been initiated against a number of industries, which were not discharging toxic water in the drain. The action could lead to closure of such industrial units and rendering hundreds of employees jobless.The spokesman said that the wastewater disposal system operational in Multan Road industrial area was not different than Johar Town and other housing schemes but the city district government had singled out the area for action.

The LCCI spokesman said that the city district government should form a committee with representatives of industrialists for resolving the issue instead of risking the closure of the industries.

PMA: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has demanded suspension of a station house officer (SHO) from service for registering a false case against a medical practitioner.

Lahore PMA president Prof Imtiaz Rasool, Dr Tanvir Anwar, Dr Izhar Chaudhry and Dr Tariq Mahmood told reporters here on Monday that the police had registered a wrong case against Dr Nasim Rafi for his negligence in the death of a patient.

They said Dr Rafi had administered an (dicioran) injection to a patient who died five days after.
