KARACHI, June 13: A middle-aged pedestrian was killed in a road accident in the small hours of Friday.

They said Imtiaz Ali Khan, son of Zahoor Ahmed, was hit and run over by a truck (No JT-4932) at around 4am at Bara Board area in Pak Colony police limits. The 37-year-old victim died before he could be rushed to hospital.

According to PPI, the body was later taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. Following the post-mortem examination, police handed over the body to the heirs for burial.

Police impounded the truck and lodged an FIR (82/2008) under Sections 320, 337-G and 427 of the Pakistan Panel Code lodged against the unidentified driver, who escaped soon after the accident.

Drowned

Two young picnickers drowned in the Hub River.

Hub kiosk police said a group of people had arrived from Lyari for a picnic on Thursday evening. They were bathing in the river when 20-year-old Jehanzeb, son of Ghulam Haider, and 18-year-old Shakeel, son of Abdul Rashid, drowned.

They said that divers recovered the body of Jehanzeb on Thursday night, while that of Shakeel was found after hectic efforts on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, three drug-pushers were nabbed and hashish was seized from their custody in Mehmoodabad police jurisdictions on Friday. Police registered three FIRs (No 157, 158 and 159) against the three accused under Sections 6/9-B and C of the Act of Narcotic Substances’ Control.
