SANGHAR, June 2: The advancing of clocks by one hour to conserve energy is going to make government officers more lethargic, according to a survey conducted by this scribe.

Monday was the first official working day after forwarding the time when this correspondent visited different government offices by 9.30am.

The DCO, the DPO, the Hesco executive engineer, the treasury officer and other officers were not present in the office but their offices were open and electric gadgets were on.

At the Hesco office, the watchman said that the executive engineer would come according to old time. However, the head clerk was present, he added. Same was the position at other government offices.

At the DPO office, more than 20 people, including women, were waiting for him but he was out for some official work, this correspondent was told. Offices of the DCO and the EDO revenue were opened at 8am but the officials, according to peons, were supposed to come after 11am.

On Sunday and Monday, Hesco resorted to more intensified power loadshedding instead of giving relief even for an hour. President of the Federation of Trade and Commerce Sufi Abdul Haq, Vice- President Master Sher Mohammad, District Bar Association President Anwar Mehmood Nizamani and General-Secretary Zafar Hayat have rejected the idea as a ‘joke’ with the people and said that it would not lead to energy saving.

Mr Nizamani said that people would reach government offices at the new timings but the officials would come according to old timings and leave offices at new timing.

He called on the government to review the decision, restore old timing and take realistic steps for energy conservation.
