MIRPURKHAS, May 17: Acute water shortage has compelled people to fetch drinking water from far flung areas, hand-pumps and distributaries. They also purchase tankers from the TMA Mirpurkhas.

Reports said different areas, including Hameedpura Colony, Hirabad, Thomsabad, Lalchandabad, Baloch Para, Gharibabad, Newtown, Mir Allah Bachayo Colony, Khad Plot, Mir Ka Plot, Nai Para, Lal Para, Pak Colony, Rajar Colony, Ghosia Colony, Nawab Colony and parts of Satellite Town were facing water shortage.

Taluka Nazim Mirpurkhas Ghulam Dastagir Kamali when contacted said due to frequent load-shedding and rotation programme of the Irrigation Department, distribution of water to the city had been affected. He added that the TMA was making efforts to supply water to people.

He further said he visited water supply line at Tando Adam Road and found influential landlords stealing water for their crops by illegally breaking pipeline. He said he had informed the DCO and DPO in this regard.

People had demanded of the concerned authorities to ensure registration of an FIR against influential landlords involved in water theft.
