HYDERABAD, May 14: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-backed City Taluka Nazim Javed Jabbar and an MPA selected to reserved seat Dr Saba Syed have tendered resignations citing personal reasons, party sources said on Tuesday.

The party had relieved the nazim of his responsibility because he was finding it hard to tackle growing problems of his area, the sources said.

They said that District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil had asked him on several occasions to solve people’s problems in an efficient manner. He had also been called to the party’s headquarters in Azizabad, Karachi probably to explain his position, they said.

The party’s local chapter had also received reports about irregularities in the contracts awarded by the taluka municipal administration (TMA), which he headed. He tendered his resignation to the chief executive of the province under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001, the sources said.

Jabbar did put in some efforts to solve problems but he failed to do away with the nagging problems of sewerage, drainage, sanitation, sale of pressure meat and encroachment over the last two and a half years.

His close circles also extended him help in running the affairs still he failed. Considerable amount was spent in the name of the taluka’s beautification during his tenure under which some ridiculous-looking models of dinosaurs were placed in some of the busiest areas of the city like Liberty market.

Mr Jabbar couldn’t be reached for comments and cell phone was found switched off.

Meanwhile, an MQM MPA selected to a reserved seat, Dr Saba Syed, has also tendered resignation to the speaker of the Sindh Assembly citing personal reasons. She, too, could not be reached for comments.
