KARACHI, May 14: The Accountability Court-II, Karachi, on Wednesday examined a prosecution witness in the NAB reference (No.28/2008) filed against Javed Iqbal Ansari and others in the Alliance Motors investment scam, and adjourned the matter till June 2.

According to the reference, M/s T.J. Ibrahim & Company, a partnership concern, was formed in 1979-80 under the patronage of one Pir Haji Mohammad Usman (late) who induce his followers to deposit their savings with the company and another firm, M/s Alliance Motors.

About Rs3.57 million were collected by as investment from 48,250 depositors on the promise of attractive profits. The money was, however, diverted to the relatives, friends and close associates of the accused.

Meanwhile, the Accountability Court-III, Karachi, adjourned hearing of a reference (No.1/007) filed against Gul Hassan Sand till June 2.

The adjournment came for want of original documents regarding details of the properties the accused had owned in his own name and in the name of his family. The court directed investigation officer of the case to produce the required documents on next date of hearing.

According to the reference, the accused had joined the Agriculture Engineering and Water Management Department, Hyderabad, as a junior clerk in 1977 and was promoted to the post of director during his service period.

The accused, during 1988 to 2003 acquired 10 immovable properties either in his own name or in the name of his family members.

Two prosecution witnesses were present in court to depose but the hearing was put off.—APP/PPI
