JACOBABAD, May 3: A shutter down strike was observed in Kandhkot on the call of Citizen Ittehad Committee and Hindu Panchayat. All business centres and markets including cloth market, Sarafa bazaar, general merchants and Anaj Mandi remained closed to protest the kidnapping of three children.

The city wore a deserted look and only a few motorcycles were seen on the road while public transport reaching from outside the district was also thin.

It may be mentioned here that three children, Iram, Tahira and Veeraj Kumar were kidnapped from Kandhkot about one month back.

RALLY: A rally was taken out from the press club by the District Union of Journalists here on Saturday to mark the world media day.

Participants, including Jan Odhano, Ghanshamdas, Sami Soomro, Azhar Gul Sarki and others marched through the DCO Road, Qauid-e-Azam Road and then returned to the press club.

Participants carried placards and raised slogans demanding press freedom. Speakers said that journalists were labourers who work for 18 hours but do not get satisfactory renumeration while prices of newspapers and advertisement rates had increased manifold.

They demanded immediate implementation of the Wage Award and protection to the journalists. They condemned torture against journalists.
