KARACHI: Petition against PTCL

Published April 26, 2008

KARACHI, April 25: The Consumer Association of Pakistan has moved the Sindh High Court (SHC) against curtailing of the local call pulse (duration) from April 1 and also the imposition of “Pakistan Package” on its subscribers.

The association has maintained that the curtailing of the call duration is in contravention of the assurance held out by the government at the time of the PTCL’s privatisation that the private sector will provide far better services at cheaper rates.

It has also pointed out that the local call rate charged by the PTCL is the highest in the world and the unilateral decision will increase the PTCL subscribers’ monthly phone bill by 100 per cent.

Referring to the “Pakistan Package”, the petitioner has submitted that a service provider cannot impose its offer on its subscriber.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing on April 28.—APP
