KARACHI, April 25: Twenty-one vehicles — eight cars and 13 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, the police said.

Four cars were hijacked and four others stolen in Ferozabad, Garden, City Courts, Defence, and Soldier Bazaar police limits.

Seven motorcycles were hijacked and six others stolen in Rizvia, SITE, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, and New Town police limits.

SUICIDE: A young man committed suicide in his home in Malir on Thursday.

The police said that Abdul Hafiz, aged 36, father of three, hanged himself from a ceiling fan after locking himself up in a room in his house in Saudabad. He was an electrician.

Quoting the family, the police said that the dead man was mentally deranged.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for autopsy. After post-mortem, the body was handed over to the dead man’s relations, the police said.

WOUNDED: Unidentified attackers shot and wounded two men in Federal Capital Area on Thursday.

The police said that three unidentified men, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire at a shop in Zeenat Square in FC Area wounding Nadeem Zaidi, aged 36, and Syed Fida Husain Naqvi, aged 50, and escaped. The injured men had been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Following the firing, tension griped the area and shopkeepers pulled their shutters down.

The police said that Nadeem Zaidi was a tailor-master and Fida Husain was visiting his shop.

A senior police officer termed the attack an act of terrorism. Sectarian motive could not be ruled out, he said.
