GUJRANWALA, April 12: In a surprise move, the district administration on Saturday forced closure of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sale points all over Gujranwala.

The decision has been taken following explosions in Faisalabad and Lahore. The government directed the police to crack down on those shopkeepers who would continue to sell the LPG despite ban.

Information gleaned by Dawn revealed that the public transport, especially pick-ups and rickshaws, remained parked outside the LPG outlets the whole day through as the commuters faced difficulties in moving from one place to another.

Among the sufferers were those who use LPG at their houses or shops for ironing clothes.

LPG Dealers Association President Asghar Lone held an emergent press conference and protested against abrupt closure of shops, calling the action unjust.

He demanded that the LPG dealers should be allowed to run their business as they were doing nothing illegal.
