SIALKOT, March 28: The Daska tehsil council in its special session on Friday passed a no-confidence motion against Naib Nazim Muhammad Imran Butt of the PML-Q.

Tehsil Nazim Nasir Mahmood Cheema presided over the session.

Model Town UC Naib Nazim Chaudhry Jamil Akhtar presented the no-confidence motion against Imran Butt when 36 out of 41 members of the house were present. All the 36 members voted in favour of the resolution, showing naib nazim the door.

Nasir Cheema later told reporters that the house would elect a new naib nazim in its coming session that would be held after around 10 days.

On March 19, Imran Butt had proceeded on a month-long leave in a bid to avert the no-confidence motion tabled against him.

However, according to Nasir Cheema, under the law a no-confidence move could be presented and passed against naib nazim who had proceeded on leave.

LIFE ATTEMPT: The Daska city police arrested Sialkot District Council member Azra Arif Butt for making an attempt on the life of her second husband by hanging him with a ceiling fan allegedly over a domestic dispute a couple of days ago. A local court, however, granted her bail on Friday.

Azra Butt had married Shahzad Aziz Mughal of Hajipura locality after getting divorce from her first husband a few months ago. However, their matrimonial relations got strained and she called Shahzad at her Model Town residence a couple a days ago. Later, with the help of her son, Navid, and some accomplices, she hanged Shahzad with the ceiling fan to depict his death a suicide.

However, in the meantime, Shahzad’s relatives reached there and loosened the noose around his neck. He was later taken to Mayo Hospital in Lahore where he is stated to be in critical condition.The police registered a case against the accused under sections 324, 337-G and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and arrested Azra Butt. A local magistrate, Ilyas Rehan, later granted her bail on Friday.

ACCIDENTS: Three people, including a police constable, were killed in road accidents on Friday. In first incident, Nadeem Ramzan, who was a constable in Punjab Constabulary, and his friend Tariq were going to Poorab Kalair village in Pasrur tehsil when a speeding tractor-trolley laden with bricks hit them, killing both of them on the spot. The Badiana police registered a case against the absconding driver. The bodies were handed over to their families after autopsies at Pasrur THQ Hospital.

Meanwhile, an unidentified elderly man was run over by a passenger van near Ranjhai on Daska-Gujranwala Road on Friday.

The man was crossing the road when the van hit him, killing him on the spot. The Daska Sadar police registered a case and handed over the body to Young Blood Foundation, a local NGO, for temporary burial.
