MIRPURKHAS, March 23: Sugarcane growers of Digri and Jhuddo talukas staged a protest demonstration outside the Digri Sugar Mills on Saturday against the non-payment of dues.

A large number of growers from Sanjar Chang, Chambar, Dumbalo, Tando Ghulam Ali, Tando Jan Mohammad and other areas staged the demonstration outside the mill demanding payment of outstanding dues of growers against the mill.

The mill management closed the main gate and called in a heavy contingent of police.

Later, talks were held between the representatives of growers and mill management which lasted for two hours but without any result.

Talking to reporters, farmer leader Haji Khalid Arain said that over Rs300 million were outstanding against Digri sugar mill since last four years but the mill management had failed to pay this amount to growers.

He warned that if the mill did not pay their dues within two days, they would call for complete strike in Digri, Mirwah Gorchani, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naokot and Dumbalo other areas.
