ISLAMABAD, March 19: A man was allegedly shot dead by his rivals in the Kural police area on Wednesday, police said.

Mohammad Younas Bhatti, 50, was going home after attending court proceeding. When he reached at KRL chowk the taxi in which he was traveling developed fault forcing him to halt his journey.

Police said as he got out of his vehicle, he was targeted and killed by some armed men who later disappeared. Police said the motive behind the murder seems to be an old enmity between the two families.

The body was removed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital for autopsy. The alleged killers are yet to be arrested by the police.

Two injured: Two persons, including a fire fighter were slightly injured on Wednesday night when fire gutted several make-shift houses located on a hill-top on Adiala road, eye witnesses and emergency services said.

One of the occupants of the make-shift tents was injured when objects from the burning homes fell on him. A fire fighter from the Rescue 1122 was also hurt, a spokesman for the rescue services said.

All the occupants of the make-shift homes were evacuated soon after the fire erupted in one of the homes, apparently while cooking meal.

Thick black clouds of smoke and upward moving flames could be seen from miles away as the site was located on the top of the hill. The fire engulfed several make-shift tents at around 9.20 pm. The fire was brought under control two hours later.

Over 50 fire fighters tackled the blaze and four fire engines remained on the scene till 11.15 pm.

The injured fire fighter named as Omer was shifted to hospital where he is stated to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old woman was killed after being run over by a vehicle near Khana Bridge on Wednesday, police said. Shafat Jan 65, was crossing the road when a speeding vehicle knocked her down and sped away.

POLICEMEN DISMISSED: Four policemen were dismissed from service, while 29 others including a lady headconstable were served with departmental punishments for their poor performance, a spokesman for the police said on Wednesday.

Zahid Hussain SI, Badi-uz-Zaman SI, Fateh Sher ASI and Sardar constable were dismissed from service. While annual increments of Mohammad Zaman SI and Mohammad Shafiq ASI were stopped for two years.

The spokesman said Tasadaq SI, Fiaz Ahmad SI, Arshad Mehmood SI, Mohamamd Ali SI, Shakeel Ahmad ASI, Ghulam Rasool ASI, Asif Hussain ASI, Javaid Niazi ASI, Muhammad Junaid ASI, Mushtaq Ahmad ASI, Mohammad Asghar head constable, Mohammad Farooq SI, Ghulam Mustafa SI, Shahid Mehmood ASI, Fareed Khan constable, Mohammad Rashid ASI, Mohammad Iqbal ASI were served with censure notices.
