KARACHI, April 18: Twenty-one vehicles — 11 cars and 10 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, the police said.

Four cars were hijacked. Seven others were stolen.

Four motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

The police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered five vehicles (G-0187, PL-1527, JM-3147, KAR-8897, and KAE-9575) in the city.

ROAD ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road accident in SITE area on late Wednesday night.

The police said that Mohammed Irfan, aged 23, had been run over by a speeding water tanker near Habib Bank Chowrangi in SITE. He was seriously injured and rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.

The police claimed to have arrested the tanker driver, identified as Javed Akhtar. The police also impounded the water tanker (JB-9810).

DIES: A housewife died after consuming poison in her home in Korangi Industrial Area on Thursday. The police said that Shakira, aged 40, consumed poison in her home.

She was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Police arrested the woman’s husband, Bashir Ahmed, on suspicion of administering poison to his wife.

ARRESTED: The Gulistan-i-Jauhar police arrested two suspects on Thursday and recovered two pistols, stolen/hijacked motorcycles, spare parts, and motorcycles’ documents from their possession.

The SHO Gulistan-i-Jauhar said that during snap checking at Jauhar Chowrangi, the police signalled two motorcyclists to stop. However, they tried to speed away. The police chased them and took them into custody.

The police conducted physical search of the suspects, identified as Niaz Ali and Gul Hasan Brohi, and recovered two pistols from their possession. The police also recovered three stolen/hijacked motorcycles from their possession.

The SHO said that in a raid on the suspects’ home in Quaid-i-Azam Colony, Block 4-A, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, the police recovered numerous motorcycles’ documents, spare parts, instant colours and a grinder used in erasing engine and chassis numbers.
