GUJRANWALA, March 11: The twin blasts in Lahore has prompted the regional office of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Gujranwala to tighten security arrangements to the maximum in its capacity.

Besides banning the parking of vehicles in its regional office, the agency has installed close-circuit cameras all around the premises to keep a wary eye on any suspect.

FIA additional director Hussain Asghar told Dawn on Tuesday that security personnel had been deployed in force at all sections of the regional office, including the entrance gate. He said all roads leading to the FIA office had also been barricaded.

Mr Asghar appealed to visitors that they should cooperate with the agency and avoid bringing vehicles in the regional office. He also directed FIA officials to be on high alert round-the-clock.

CONDEMNATION: The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry and traders’ organizations strongly condemned two suicide bomb attacks on the FIA Headquarters building and Model Town area in Lahore.

Holding the government responsible for this act of terrorism, they said that heavy casualties, particularly the killing of schoolchildren, in twin blasts had grieved everyone.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Tuesday, chamber president Riaz Mehmood Bajwa, senior vice-president Sheikh M Tariq, vice-president Hafiz Irfan and other office-bearers said the deteriorating law and order situation in the country had badly affected the economy.
