HYDERABAD, March 10: The district police have deployed plain-clothed policemen at shopping centres, bus stops, sensitive points and venues of public meetings ahead of Eid Milad-un-Nabi. Close circuit TV cameras have also been installed.

Police authorities have urged citizens to keep a vigil on people with suspicious movements.

Hyderabad DPO Imran Shaukat on Monday held a meeting with citizens, representatives of different religious organisations and union council nazims to finalise arrangements for 12th Rabiul Awal celebrations on March 21.

He told the participants that during Muharram, no unpleasant incident took place in the city. He lauded efforts of people for extending cooperation to police for maintenance of law and order.

The meeting which was held at the district police headquarters was attended among others by Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan leaders Ibrahim Sheikh, Sahibzada Mehmood Ahmed, UC Nazims Hussain Bux Hussaini, Mohammad Ehsan and the supervising police officers.

The DPO urged people to ensure that nobody resorted to mudslinging against people of rival sects in their speeches. He also asked them to avoid food distribution from rooftops.

He said that traffic police officials had been asked to prepare a traffic plan and police officers would be in touch with the representatives of religious parties or organisations.

He stated that police would establish 40 pickets for security arrangements and policemen would be deployed on rooftops.

The main route of processions of Eid Milad-un-Nabi would be heavily manned, he said, adding that patrolling would continue by policemen on motorbikes.

The participants called for repair of the main procession route and power supply to street lights. They assured the DPO of cooperation and promised to resolve smaller issues on their own.

STREET CRIME: Expressing concern over an increase in street crime, Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the district police to take effective measures to control crime, arrest culprits and recover looted goods from their possession, reports our bureau.
