U-17 boxing enters finals stage

LAHORE, March 5: The Inter-provincial Under-17 Boxing Championship entered the finals stage here on Wednesday.

In the 46kg weight category, Wajahat Ali of the Punjab won the semi-final against Rawi of Fata while Sindh’s Shehroz ousted Abdul Kabir of Balochistan.

Punjab’s Khawar Shahzad moved ahead after beating Aamir Murtaza of Balochistan in the 48kg class. In the final Khawar will meet Fata’s Sherawan who had defeated Sajid Ali of NWFP.

In the 50kg, Ali Javed of the Punjab and Jamal of Sindh reached the final. Ali outplayed NWFP’s Fahim while Jamal overwhelmed Mohammad Raza of Balochistan.

In the 52 kg, Usama Arshad of Punjab brushed aside Mohammad Nasir of Fata.In the 54kg, Junaid of Fata and Ahmad Bin Babar (Punjab) booked their places in the final. Junaid edged past Balochistan’s Khuda Buksh and Ahmed was too strong against Jansher of Sindh.

In the 57kg, Nausherwan of the Punjab overcame Arsalan Ali Khan of NWFP while in the 60kg Balochistan’s Kazim defeated Kazim of Sindh. In the 60kg class Saddam Hussain of Sindh prevailed over Aamir Rafiq of Fata.

On Tuesday, the opening day of the championship, six fights in different categories were held.

In the 48kg Khawar Shahzad of the Punjab beat Shaharyar of Sindh. In 50kg, Jamal of Sindh overpowered Mir Waiz of Fata, Salahuddin Afridi of Sindh defeated Balochistan’s Ali Mohammad in the 54kg, Punjab’s Nausherwan Aadil beat Rehan of Fata while in the 60kg Aamir Rafiq overwhelmed Awais Qureshi of NWFP.
