PESHAWAR, Feb 24: Three security men were killed and six others were injured when armed men attacked a checkpost on the outskirts of the city on Saturday night.

According to police, at least 50 armed men stormed the checkpost manned by reserve police and FC personnel at the Qadirabad Primary School of Matni area. They said the attackers used heavy weapons damaging the building.

The deceased were identified as Hafizullah and Ihsanulah of the FC and police constable Diar Akbar.

Two of the injured were still in hospital and one of them was stated to be in a serious condition.

A police official claimed that a militant was also killed and several others were injured in an exchange of fire.

The assailants took away the body and their injured colleagues to the tribal area.

A case has been registered at the Matani police station, but no one has so far been arrested.

This was the second attack of its kind in recent days.

An FC official was killed and a police constable was injured when armed men had attacked a Frontier Constabulary fort in Kishan Garh on Feb 15.
