KARACHI: MQM leader hits out at PPP

Published February 21, 2008

KARACHI, Feb 20: Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, a Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader who won PS-126 according to the unofficial results of the election commission, has taken a strong exception to charges made against him by a Pakistan People’s Party candidate at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by Mr Subzwari on Wednesday, several incidents of manhandling of MQM workers were reported to the authorities in his constituency.

“But I would like to mention two unfortunate incidents. Firstly, the presiding officer of the KDA building polling station in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Block 11, was not only beaten up publicly by Mr Faisal Abidi of the PPP and his armed guards, but they also tried to kidnap him. This particular incident is recorded with the police. Secondly, the presiding officer of Harry’s School, Chapal Sun City, Scheme 33, was openly threatened with dire consequences by Mr Abidi.”

Mr Subzwari says that many such incidents took place on polling day.
