KARACHI, Feb 6: An additional district and sessions court on Wednesday issued non-bailable warrants for arrest of five policemen, a medico-legal officer and four other prosecution witnesses in a double murder case.
Judge Nelofer Shahnawaz issued non-bailable arrest warrants for sub-inspector Sajid, investigation officer Mehmood Akthar, sub-inspector Ghulam Mustafa, sub-inspector Mohammad Arif, constable Mohammad Sarfaraz, medico-legal officer of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Dr Zafar Shah Khan, and prosecution witnesses Naseer Ahmed, Mohammad Altaf, Mohammad Younus and Sakeena Bibi for not complying with the court summons and directed the police authorities to arrest and produce them in court on the next hearing.
According to the prosecution, 70-year-old Abdul Latif had stabbed his son-in-law Mushtaq Ahmed’s brother and uncle in Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police limits on September 27, 2000. Both died on their way to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The post-mortem examination of the bodies was conducted by MLO Dr Zafar Shah Khan.
The court had issued notices and bailable warrants for the arrest of policemen, MLO and other prosecution witnesses, directing them to record their statements in the case. However, they did not appear to testify.
Mr Latif was booked under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code in the case (FIR No 177/2000) at Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station. He was later remanded in judicial custody.
The court adjourned the hearing till February 26.
Boy’s murder
Bailable warrants for the arrest of two medico-legal officers were issued in a boy’s murder case on Wednesday.
According to the prosecution, Mohammad Younus, son of Mohammad Darvesh, had stabbed 14-year-old Mohammad Ghiyas, son of Mohammad Saleem, in Liaquatabad after an exchange of hot words with him in Super Market police limits on August 20, 2001. Dr Sarfaraz Gul and Dr Zafar Shah, the MLOs of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, had conducted the post-mortem examination of the body.
The judicial magistrate, east, Ayaz Mustafa Jokhio, had recorded the confessional statement of the accused, Mohammad Younus. He was booked under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code in the case (FIR No 84/01) registered at Super Market police station.
However, the MLOs did not appear in court to testify despite repeated reminders.
