MULTAN, Feb 4: All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) Convener Mehmood Khan Achakzai said on Monday all parties of the Pakistan Oppressed Nation Moment (PONM) and the APDM would support Qazi Husain Ahmed’s endeavour for an Islamic revolution in the country and also he urged the public to launch a civil disobedience movement.

He said this while addressing an APDM meeting at Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh.

Mr Achakzai said that they were not against the army or intelligence agencies but they wanted the army and intelligence agencies the best one in the world and this could be done by ending the role of army and agencies from the national politics.

He said that they did not want to live in a Pakistan where Sindhis, Balochis, Pakhtoons and Seraikis were considered slaves.

He said that it was Nawaz Sharif who had formed the APDM and he used to say that Pervez Musharraf would not be accepted either in or without uniform. Now, Mr Sharif was contesting elections being held under President Musharraf.

He said all those parties taking part in elections were actually going to provide a chance to Mr Musharraf to remain in power for another five years.

He said Mr Sharif, Fazlur Rehman and Asfand Yar Wali should remember their promises regarding never accepting Musharraf in power.

Tehrik-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan said even though the country was facing the worst crisis of its history, people had a great opportunity to make the country a Quaid’s Pakistan by joining the movement for the reinstatement of deposed judges.

He said President Musharraf was killing his own countrymen in the name of war on terror to please the US but US President Bush was an international terrorist.

He said the poor wanted an independent judiciary, restoration of true democracy and release of all judges, lawyers and political workers.

Jamaat-i-Islami leader Liaqat Baloch said people had no concern with the elections and the parties contesting the polls had not courage to organise public gatherings.

He condemned Caretaker Information Minister Nisar A. Memon’s statement that in case the opposition continued the movement for the reinstatement of the deposed chief justice, the episode of Nov 3 could be repeated.

Dr Abdul Haye Baloch said even though the whole country was burning, but Balochistan had been affected more from other parts of the country.

Dr Qadir Magsi said the Pakistan Muslim League-Q was an ally of President Musharraf while his actual party was the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
