ISLAMABAD, April 9: A local court released on bail an accused who had been arrested in January last on charges of impersonating the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) chairman.

Mian Abdul Salam, a resident of Rawalpindi, was allegedly involved in a number of fraud cases in which he used fake visiting cards of CBR chairman.

According to a press release issued here, the CBR first came to know about the person on December 1, 2001 when the managing-director of Shifa Medical College, Islamabad, received a phone call from the accused demanding financial help to a needy person. “He posed himself as the CBR chairman.”

Later, some more instances came into the notice of the CBR, the press release added.

The CBR had lodged an FIR with the Secretariat Police on January 10. After two days, the police arrested the accused under section 419/420.
