KARACHI, Feb 1: Adminis-trative measures are being taken to plug the leakages and improve the financial position of the Fishermen Cooperative Society, which has been crippled to such an extent that it cannot pay the salaries of its 350 employees.
These views were expressed by the administrator of the society, Tahir Mazhar Dada, while speaking at a function of FCS employees and senior staffers after Friday prayers at Karachi Fish Harbour.
Reviewing the society’s performance since December 5, 2007 when he took over as the new chief, he said that an increase in the income during the last month suggested that revenue generation capacity could be enhanced by cent per cent. He stressed the need to bring an end to corrupt practices and urged all employees to make accountable all those involved in the loot and plunder.
FCS Manager Mohammad Ghazanfar Ali Boota, Pakistan Seafood Industries Association Chairman Sardar Mohammad Hanif Khan, former director of FCS Haji Shafi Mohammad Jamote and a representative of the fishermen community from Baba Bhitt, Haji Ibrahim, also spoke and assured the new administrator of their full support to make the FCS financially viable.
Strike postponed
The Pakistan Seafood Indus-tries Association has postponed its strike of February 4 on the assurance of federal officials concerned that the problems being faced by the industry would be solved soon, according to a press release of the association.
Halepota’s visit
Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Abdul Qadir Halepota will inaugurate an auction hall, K-II, at the Karachi Fish Harbour on Saturday morning. The auction hall is designed for seafood exports to the European Union, says a press release of the Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority.
