KARACHI, Jan 19: A suspected robber, arrested and identified by his victim, was remanded on Friday in the judicial custody as the police failed to extract any lead to two other robbers from him during his five-day interrogation.

The gang of three had allegedly deprived Dr Mohammed Shoaib Siddiqui of $8,000, Rs7,500 and his cellular phone at gunpoint on Jan 7 in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

According to the victim, on Jan 12 he saw the suspect near Gulshan Chowrangi and he with the help of bystanders nabbed him and later handed him over to police.

Dr Siddiqui told Dawn that he had gone to two different money changers to buy dollars. He said three dacoits on two motorcycles intercepted him in Block 5 and looted him at gunpoint.

He said he had gone to the money changers to see their close-circuit videotapes as he suspected that the gang must have followed him after the money change.

The doctor said the man who had pointed gun at him was seen in the footage and he had immediately identified him. “How can I forget the face of that gun-totting man?” he added.

According to the FIR, the complainant himself nabbed the suspect with the help of other people. Sources, however, said the man was actually caught by one of the money changers in the limits of Sachal police. They said the doctor’s robbery was very much in the knowledge of the money changer who also had the footage of the suspect.
