KARACHI, Jan 18: A teenager was arrested on charges of child abuse in Noorani Basti on Friday.

Police said that the 16-year-old suspect, Abdul Rehman, sneaked into a house in his neighbourhood and raped a seven-year-old boy who was alone at home as his parents were away at work on Thursday.

On a complaint of the child’s father, Muhammad Yameen, police referred his son to the medico-legal section of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a thorough examination.

The medical examination of the child suggested that he was subjected to sexual abuse. “Findings are positive and the medico-legal report bearing the findings has been issued to the victim’s father,” said a senior medico legal officer, Dr Abdul Razzak Shaikh.

Subsequently, a case (FIR No 26/2008) was registered at Zaman Police Station. On the father’s suspicion, police picked up Abdul Rehman, a resident of the same locality, and brought him to the JPMC for a medical examination on Friday. “The accused was examined if he is capable of committing the offence, and the findings were positive,” Dr Shaikh added.
