KARACHI, Jan 3: A woman and her two-year-old daughter died on Thursday when the motorcycle she was travelling on with her husband rammed into a moving truck in the Maripur area within the Site police station limits, locals and police said.

The area police said the accident occurred in the evening but they failed to trace the victims as they had left the crash scene for their residence in Lyari without reporting the matter to the police station and any hospital.

“But we have seized the truck and arrested driver Saif-ur-Rahman,” said Sub Inspector Bakht Jahan of the Site police station. “There are no confirmed reports about the accident as the truck driver claimed that it was not his fault and the motorcycles carrying the victims rammed into the truck’s rear wheel due to over-speeding.”

However, he said, the police came to know later that the family belonged to Lyari, adding that the family was neither interesting in pursuing the case nor willing to lodge an FIR against the truck driver.

The area people, however, the police reached the crash site a little late. They said the relatives of the affected family reached the spot earlier than the law-enforcers and took away the bodies with them.

“The affected family’s relatives also visited the Maripur police station where they wanted the custody of the truck driver rather than lodging a complaint,” said an eyewitness. “But after the police refusal they left the police station and didn’t bother to visit the Site police station.”
