Shamyl, Saqib steer team to victory

LAHORE, Dec 25: Three goals each by Shah Shamyl Alam and Saqib Khan Khakwani steered Newage to a 8-6 triumph against Sherwood in a high-scoring match of the Fast Polo Cup on Tuesday.

Shamyl gave the winners a 2-1 lead in the first chukker scoring back-to-back goals off penalty hits. Earlier, Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana struck one for the losing side. In the second chukker both teams scored two each as the winners came out with a 4-3 lead. Adnan Jalil and Saqib Khan Khakwani initially put the winners 4-1 ahead but in the dying minutes Ahmed and Azhar Ali pumped in one each for the losing side to reduce the margin.

The third chukker saw Newage coming out with a slight better lead 6-4 adding two more through Saqib Khan Khakwani and Shamyl. Hassan Ali Farrukh banged home for the losers.

In the last chukker both the outfits added two more as Newage confirmed their victory. Saqib and Adnan struck for the winners while Azhar and Shahzad Aziz for the losers.

Four-goal Raja Samiullah powered HBL Whites to crush Karachi Riding School 6- 3 1/2.

The winners were on the offensive from the word go taking a 3-2 1/2 lead despite the losing side’s handicap of 1 1/2. Samiullah found the target twice while Taimur Ali for once. Abdul Haseeb Mehta drew first blood for the losing side.

After a barren second chukker, HBL increased the lead to 4- 2 1/2 in the third chukker scoring the solitary goal through Samiullah.

The fourth chukker saw HBL Whites extending the lead to 6-2 1/2 by scoring two more from Samiullah and Dr Iftikhar Ali Khan Simba, before Haseeb struck his second but just to reduce the margin.
