KARACHI, April 1: The RLAK Govt College of Home Economics, a professional college, offers Master’s level courses in five specialized areas, said principal of the college, Zubaida Mairaj.

Referring to a story captioned: “Probe body formed to look into hostel issues”, published on March 25, the principal, who has been holding the post since 1994, said it was incorrect to say that the academic standard of the college had fallen.

She said a lot of research works were being conducted in the five fields every year. The high academic standard of the college is acknowledged by educational authorities of the province, which could be attributed to the dedicated staff who work as a well-organized team, she maintained.

Regarding technical facilities, the principal and a dozen of teachers in a statement said that during the tenure of the incumbent principal, seven projects were undertaken and accomplished. Some of them included “the first ever computer lab, funded by private sponsors, for MSc students; food microbiology lab for MSc students of food and nutrition department; departmental library of clothing and textile department; and experimental textile Lab”.

Besides, a spacious multi-purpose hall was under construction, the statement added.

“The academic council of the college is fully conscious of the presence of vested interest groups within and outside the college, who were responsible for the publication of the incorrect news, casting a bad image on the college”, the statement said, adding that the same vested interests were also critical of the extension granted to the principal.
