SUKKUR, Dec 16: Philanthropists from Abu Dhabi have pledged to provide state-of-the-art equipment and machinery to the Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Sukkur, according to District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussein Shah.

Speaking at an award distribution ceremony at the college on Sunday, he said that the college was imparting quality education to students of upper Sindh and its affiliated teaching hospital was providing treatment facilities to patients of area.

He hoped that in future the college would prove a quality medical education institute of Sindh province.

Later, the nazim distributed awards among students and faculty. Student of third year MBBS Ms. Uzma Gul was given the crest of the college. The nazim announced one time scholarship of Rs0.1 million for Ms. Uzma Gul as a token of appreciation.

She has secured the third position in the first professional MBBS from the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro (LUMHS).

Awards for outstanding performance were distributed among three top performing boys and girls of the medical college.

Prof Dr. Asadullah Mahar, principal and professor of Orthopedics, Prof Dr. Abrar Ahmed Sheikh, professor of medicine, Prof Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Memon, professor of pharmacology, Dr. Hafeezullah, professor of physiology, Dr. Imdad Hussain Mangi, head of Pathology Department, Surgeon Dr. Leela Ram Mandhan, head of anatomy, Dr. Abdul Haque Sheikh, chairman of Organizing Committee, Dr. Nazir Ahmed Shah, assistant professor of pharmacology and In-charge of admission and student affairs were decorated with the crest of the college for their efforts for the uplift and betterment of the college.

Awards were also distributed among students winning the debate. In English the 1st prize went to 2nd year student Javaria Maryam. In Urdu the 1st position was taken by Ms. Anam Iftikhar student of 1st year MBBS, and in Sindhi student of 2nd Year Paras Aziz was awarded 1st Prize.

In sports, four teams participated in cricket match and winner of the final was 3rd year team.—PPI
