NAWABSHAH, Dec 11: Expressing anger over the absence of representatives of all three sugar mills of the district, members of the district council on Monday unanimously passed a resolution against their management demanding payment of government-fixed price of sugarcane, issuance of indents directly to growers and an end to zoning system.

The session presided over by Convener Abdul Haq Jamali. Gupchani union council nazim Abdul Rasool Brohi presented the resolution, saying that the sugar mills of Nawabshah were paying an amount of Rs60 instead Rs67 per maund fixed by the government.

He said that the mills have created a zoning system causing trouble to growers and indents were also being given to brokers to further reduce the price. He demanded of the sugar mills to pay Rs67 to the growers, end the zone system and issue indents directly to growers instead the brokers.

The resolution was unanimously approved.

Later, the members of the council took out a rally against the mills which converged outside the press club.

Members including the district naib nazim Abdul Haq Jamali and others raised slogans against mills management.
