HYDERABAD, Dec 4: The Hyderabad chapter of the All-Pakistan Clerks Association on Tuesday urged the Sindh governor, chief minister and irrigation minister to order removal of the director of Left Bank Canal Area Water Board within a week.

Clerk leaders Noor Mohammad Shaikh, Shoukat Chhalgri, Ghulam Shabbir Mallah and Syed Naeem Ali said at a news conference at the press club that the director Jam Mitha Khan Abbasi was to join Badin office after he was transferred there but he was still sitting at his office in the Barrage Colony Hyderabad in violation of government orders.

They said that the arrogant official was in the habit of victimising and humiliating his subordinates from grade-1 to 16 and many of his staff including engineers were trying to get themselves transferred.

They claimed that the director had purchased Rs700,000 furniture through a contractor and appointed 45 ghost employees at a monthly salary of Rs3,000 each.

The leaders alleged that the director had handed over new Honda motorcycles, which were meant for the field staff, to his relatives, and appealed to authorities to order an impartial inquiry against the official after transferring him within a week.

To a question they said that they would prove the allegations at a press conference if an impartial inquiry was held against the director. crackdown: Hesco has instructed managers of all operation circles to launch a crackdown on defaulters and disconnect supply to all government organizations in case of non-payment of dues, except for public utility such as water supply and sewerage, and hospitals. The directives were issued by Chief Executive Officer, Choudhry Guftar Anjum, on Tuesday.

He ordered senior officers to monitor the work of Special Recovery Teams appointed to take action against power thieves and defaulters. He warned of taking action against those involved in over-reading of meters, along with action against the concerned SDO.

He advised consumers, trade union leaders, district and taluka nazims to conserve power by switching to energy savers.

He said Hesco will provide better service if shopping centres begin closing earlier, and unnecessary street lights put off.

He said by using one energy saver, load gets decreased by 50 to 60 per cent, ultimately reducing the monthly bill.
