HYDERABAD, Nov 14: Shah Abdul Latif Award Committee of Pakistan Academy of Letters has decided to award the “Shah Latif and Tasawwuf Award 2006” to Ms J.A. Manghani for her original work on Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai during the year 2006 published by Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai chair, University of Karachi.

The committee, which met here on Wednesday, was chaired by vice chancellor Sindh University Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.

Dr G.A.Allana, Syed Imdad Hussaini and Agha Noor Mohammad Pathan were the members of the committee.

It reviewed all eleven publications on Shah Abdul Latif, published by various publishers during the year 2006, and analysed value and depth of the work.

The committee unanimously agreed to award “Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and Tasawwuf Award” to Ms J.A.Manghani for 2006.

The committee appreciated contribution of other writers and research scholars who had worked on Shah Latif and also appreciated the work of Ms J.A. Manghani and congratulated her on the dedicated work on Bhitai.

The committee also unanimously recommended for enhancement of amount of Shah Latif and Tasawwuf Award from Rs25,000 to Rs100,000. digital library: National Digital Library Programme of Higher Education Commission is a great opportunity for scholars and students to use it for education and research promotion.

This was expressed in a presentation on e-books workshop by project coordinator Syed Hassan Zaidi and Syeda Tamkanat from HEC at Allama I.I.Kazi central library, University of Sindh, on Wednesday.

The workshop was organised by Higher Education Commission (HEC) and University of Sindh, and was largely attended by faculty members and students of the university.

They said that under the digital library, ebrary platform was a new venture as in the past it was used as e-journals. They said that access to 40,000 e-books and 34,000 additional books on ebrary platform would help research scholars.

They said that scholars who had been using ebrary to refer to books for research were availing the same facility which was available to the scholars of European universities.

They said that on the platform of ebrary presently 34,000 publications of world renowned publishers were available.
