KARACHI, Nov 4: The Labour Party Pakistan has strongly condemned the Musharraf regime for depriving people of their fundamental and democratic rights by imposing emergency.
In a joint statement issued on Sunday, LPP Chairman Nisar Shah and General-Secretary Farooq Tariq lending full support to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and Supreme Court judges who resisted the provisional constitution order. They said the resisting judges had deprived the emergency of all its justification regardless of the immediate outcome of the judges’ fight against the general. They also criticised Justice Hameed Dogar for taking oath under the PCO.
They said it was unprecedented in the history of the country that judiciary had showed such a courage.
Protest
People blocked the main Safoora Chowk on Sunday night in protest against the detention of Dr Qadir Magsi as part of the government crackdown against the opposition and the lawyers.
Protesters blocked the road by erecting barricades and setting tyres ablaze. They chanted slogans against the government and criticised it for imposing an emergency in the country. The blockade hindered the flow of traffic at University Road and other adjoining roads. A heavy contingent of police reached the spot to control the situation.
