KARACHI, March 23: The chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Husain, has urged the government to take effective steps to fulfil the aspirations of the people.

Commenting on President Musharraf’s Pakistan Day speech, he said the president had spoken about the ideals of determination, aspirations, sectarian harmony, on which no one disagreed. “However, justice should not only be done, it should be seen to be done,” he emphasized.

He said during the past one year a number of doctors and religious scholars had been killed, a church had been attacked and many innocent people had been killed. However, not a single murderer had been apprehended nor had any secret agency been questioned over these incidents.

He said that if President was sincere, then he should first expose the mischievous and conspiring elements within.

MUMTAZ: The chairman of the Sindh National Front, Mumtaz Bhutto, visited the residence of Altaf Husain in Azizabad on Saturday.

During his stay there with Muttahida leaders Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, Nasreen Jalil, Dr Farooq Sattar, he exchanged views on different issues concerning Sindh, the overall political situation of the country and matters of mutual interests, said a Muttahida press release.
