GUJRANWALA, Oct 9: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 has acquitted an alleged extremist of his links with any militant organisation.
Reports said Qaiser Zaman, of Madan Chak (Gujranwala), went to Afghanistan for ‘jehad’ but the US intelligence agency arrested him and later sent him to Guantanamo jail. He was released from the jail after one and-a-half year.
When he reached the Islamabad airport, the police arrested him and implicated him in terrorism case. As the prosecution failed to establish charges levelled against Qaiser, ATC judge Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad acquitted him.
CASE: The district and sessions judge on Tuesday ordered registration of a case against an SHO and investigation officer for keeping three people in illegal confinement at a police station.
Reports said Gujranwala Saddar police SHO (inspector) Riaz Haidri and investigation officer (ASI) Bahadur Shah picked up Ashiq, Yousaf and Sadiq from their houses and detained them at police station without registration of any case against them.
Their families moved court and District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Husain Minhas inducted a bailiff to recover them from the police custody. The bailiff recovered the three men and produced them in court.
