KASUR, Oct 1: District Nazim Rana Muhammad Hayat told a press conference on Monday the suspended district naib nazim was violating court’s orders by holding his office.

On Sept 26, 2007, the Lahore High Court dismissed ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) district naib nazim Haji Maqsood Sabir Ansari. PML-Nawaz-backed District Nazim Rana Hayat has appointed union council nazim Muhammad Ali as senior presiding officer till district naib nazim is elected.

Mr Hayat claimed the Supreme Court had disqualified the district naib nazim on March 27, 2007, as he was elected on a peasant seat.

He said the Supreme Court had not suspended the orders of the LHC, which also ordered the suspension of the district naib nazim. He alleged the district naib nazim was holding his office illegally.

He said that he had sent a letter to District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saeed Akhtar Ansari to implement the orders of the LHC. He alleged the DCO had violated the orders of court intentionally by letting Ansari continue as district naib nazim. The district nazim warned if the court’s orders were not implemented, he and other nazims would observe a hunger strike before the LHC.

But Mr Ansari says he will fiel a petition in the Supreme Court against the verdict of the LHC and claims his holding of the office is legal and in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court.

Some nazims said the district nazim himself was also violating the rules as he was not authorised to appoint a district naib nazim but the Election Commission was empowered to do so.
