Maskaev out of title defence

NEW YORK, Sept 22: Nigeria’s Samuel Peter will have another wait in his quest to challenge World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev because the Russian hurt his back while training.

The bout, which had been scheduled for Oct 6 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, has been postponed because of the injury the champion suffered Thursday during a running session.

“To fight Oct 6, in two weeks, that is not going to happen. It’s impossible,” Maskaev’s promoter Dennis Rappaport said, noting that Maskaev had tried to continue after spraining his back earlier in training.
