KARACHI, March 18: Several students were injured in a clash between two student groups at the University of Karachi on Monday.

The rival students used sticks, stones and bottles during the fight which started near the main canteen, campus officials said.

The clash occured following the display of some banners and posters on the campus on Saturday to which a group of students objected.

The Rangers break up the fight and gave severe beating to several students. Police were informed about the clash by the University authorities. However, by the time the police reached campus, the situation had cooled down.

The injured students included Akbar, Sarfaraz, Adil Abbas, Sabir Shah, Shahid, Asghar Ali, Majid Abbas and Ghufran. They were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment, from where they were later discharged.

Students belonging to both the groups said they were severely beaten up by Rangers’ personal and demanded action against them.
