KARACHI, March 18: A number of British educational institutions have shown interest in academic collaboration and cooperation with universities in Pakistan.

This was stated by Karachi University vice-chancellor Prof Zafar Saeed Saify here on Monday after his return from a week-long visit to England.

He said Federal Education Minister Zubaida Jalal led the 12-member delegation that included vice-chancellors of Karachi and Balochistan universities, officials of the Ministry of Education and the Pakistan High Commission in Britain.

The Pakistani delegation visited the University of Luton, near London; University of East London; University of Hudderfield, in north of England; Nottingham University, and held detailed talks with the officials of these educational institutions, Prof Saify said.

He said these institutions had expressed interest in academic collaborations with the universities in Pakistan towards updated educational programmes.

The KU vice-chancellor believed that such an academic cooperation and collaboration would have a significant impact on the university level education in Pakistan.

He said the academic collaboration would include cooperation in the research work and teachers’ internship and fellowship programmes.

The delegation also met the Pakistani youths, who are studying computer science and other disciplines of Information Technology, in Britain.

The federal education minister asked the Pakistani students to return to Pakistan and serve the country after completing their education, he said, adding that this would help create an overall good atmosphere in the realms of education.

Prof Saify praised Ms Jalal for her contributions towards promotion of education in the country.—APP
