COLOMBO, Sept 18: Ace off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has returned to Sri Lanka’s squad for an upcoming home One-day International series against England, selectors announced on Tuesday.

The selectors, however, said Muralitharan’s selection was subject to him regaining fitness.

The champion off-spinner was ruled out of the ongoing Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa because of a shoulder injury sustained while playing for Lancashire in the English county championship this season.

Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera is the only newcomer in the squad.

England will play five One-day Internationals in Sri Lanka, with the first match starting in Dambulla on Oct 1.

Sri Lanka squad: Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Tharanga, Chamara Silva, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Jehan Mubarak, Farveez Maharoof, Chaminda Vaas, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Muttiah Muralitharan, Gayan Wijekoon, Dilruwan Perera. —AFP
